WB Games and NetherRealm Studios announced that Mortal Kombat 11 Pro Kompetition will return for a second season, beginning on December 5th.
The Mortal Kombat 11 Pro Kompetition: Season 2 will be hosted on the PlayStation Competition Center and offer a $60,000 (~£45,000) prize pool across five divisions: North America, Latin America, Europe, Oceania, and the Middle East.
The Mortal Kombat 11 Pro Kompetition Season 2 starts with the first Liga Latina qualifier on December 5th, then continues with the InterKontinental region (Europe, Oceania, and Middle East) on December 1st, followed by the North American League on December 19th.
Each qualifier uses a double-elimination, best-of-five format. The prize pool is divided equally among regions.
Exclusive to PS4 players, the competition will require a copy of Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate, an active PlayStation Plus membership with valid PSN ID, with the participants being at least 18 years old. All characters in the game, including newly added Rain, Mileena, and Rambo, will be eligible for competition.
Each territorial division will host eight separate regular-season online events for players, who will fight to earn Pro Kompetition points. These points will be used to qualify for each respective regional final, which will produce one winner per division.
The inaugural season of Mortal Kombat 11 Pro Kompetition featured online qualifiers, followed by in-person competitions and a $150,000 prize pool.
Esports Insider says: It’s not surprising that the “Kompetition” would return for a second season, taking advantage of PlayStation’s digital esports platform. It will be interesting to see how many amateurs participate this year considering that live events are off the table for now. Participation should be a pretty good indicator of the game’s popularity a year after release, at least on PlayStation.
