aXiomatic Gaming, the parent company of esports organisation Team Liquid, has announced the appointment of Mark Vela as its Chief Strategy Officer.
According to a release, Vela will be responsible for overseeing the company’s investment activity and strategic initiatives, with a particular focus on Team Liquid, aXiomatic’s largest investment to date.
Vela brings over nine years of experience and expertise in mobile games, global gaming platforms and esports. He was promoted from his previous role as aXiomatic’s Vice President of Strategy. His previous work at the company included helping to guide its investments in big publishers like Epic Games or Niantic Inc.
Prior to his time at aXiomatic, Vela served as the Director of Strategy, Operations & Product Management at Activision, where he was in charge of building a Mobile gaming division.
Vela will report to Bruce Stein, the CEO of aXiomatic, who discussed the appointment in an announcement: “Over the last two years Mark has been an essential driver in building value to our gaming portfolio. The Board and I are excited about the future with Mark in this expanded new role.”
Besides Team Liquid, aXiomatic invests in Epic Games, Super League Gaming, and Matcherino, among others. Last year the company announced it secured over $70m (£52.4m) in funding rounds during the span of two years.
Esports Insider says: aXiomatic is an experienced esports and video game investment platform, carefully choosing not only its investments, but also its representatives. Mark Vela is a gaming industry veteran with years of experience, so it will be interesting to watch, how can he help aXiomatic and ultimately other companies within the industry grow through future investments.
