ePremier League to return for a second season

The ePremier League (ePL) will be returning for a second season in partnership with FIFA developer, EA Sports.

Season two of the ePL will offer FIFA players, that are based in the UK, a chance to represent a Premier League football club as they compete against others at the ePL Finals, taking place in March 2020.

Richard Masters, Interim Chief Executive of Premier League had this to say regarding the return: “Our inaugural ePremier League season had a great response from fans and clubs. The tournament brought together experienced EA SPORTS FIFA pros and first-time competitors and gave them the unique opportunity to compete and win for their favourite clubs. We are very pleased to be working with our clubs again to build on the momentum from our first ePL season and look forward to welcoming even more fans and EA SPORTS FIFA players to the tournament.”

Last season saw Donovan “Tekkz” Hunt claim the inaugural ePL trophy for Liverpool FC, with the finals being broadcast on Sky SportsPremier League’s Facebook Watch channel, and the EA Sports FIFA Twitch channel.

Brent Koning, FIFA Competitive Gaming Commissioner at EA added: “The Premier League’s global reach combined with the worldwide player base of EA SPORTS FIFA sets the ePremier League up to be one of the most popular esports tournaments across the industry. Esports drives increased engagement with traditional sport and this ePremier League partnership now gives fans an opportunity to represent or cheer for their favourite club on both the traditional and virtual pitch.”

Like the inaugural season, UK-based tournament organiser Gfinity will operate the ePL.

Esports Insider says: With strong viewing figures from its debut season, it’s no surprise that EA and the Premier League have embarked on a second season of the ePL. Both parties will be looking to build on the successes of last season.
